A loving portrait with some really fine tonal work. The whole piece has a soft glow - almost a diffuse filter look, which suggests a romantic sensibility. This is also suggested by the eyes - they are sharp(ish), but there's no real focus in them. Romanticism is a form of denial of the truth. A way of blurring the world to get rid of blemishes and uglyness. There's a form of that going on here. Maybe love for the subject. Another feature that stands out in this image is the off-centre composition. The eyes are placed rather high in the frame, which gives a sort of almost unsettling feel. Almost faux-documentary. Like a photo-booth picture where the subject hasn't yet adjusted to the camera. It is an interesting work, which gives the viewer some pause and reason to look more closely. Good job!
