A woman against a wall with a book. But is she reading or dreaming? This picture has the casual form of Urbanowski's previous work. A woman in some natural pose. However, where the artists previous rendering of a portrait showed off his grasp of tonal rendering, this present work seems rushed and sketchy. There's a lack of structure in the image. A feeling of cartoonishness around the arms and legs and chest. The artist makes no real decisions. He doesn't claim the lines. Doesn't truly assert the form and shape of the womans body. She seems to be made of rubber, not bones and muscles and fatty tissue. This image seems to have been drawn from memory, without any model. Therefore there's no accounting for lighting or wheight. There are no real shadows and the few there are do little to suggest shape and volume in the object. There's a lot of insecurity here. No real detail. Althought there are a few suggestions here and there (ie the soft fabric on the rightmost leg) that the Urbanowksi has talent, this picture doesn't do justice to that promise.
