In regards to kid A; I'm not trying to be a snob, quite the contrary! All I'm saying is that someone with a talent of Hessam's magnitude could be creating original work, not "cover art" (please excuse the pun!) from photographs.
I would love to see Hessam's technical skills put to use to compose an original pose, an expression, a composition and frame that were his own. For reference, see Oli's work "Existence" at the Top 100.
I am, however, very much in awe of the rare talent of Hessam.

archimbaldo is just trying to be an art snob. you *need* skill to pull of something like this.

A finely drafted hard-pencil portrait that is as crisp and sharp as a photograph. Obviously based on a photo, I'm somewhat suspicious of the bg. is this blurred background actual photography? In any case, the artist proves his skill in the fine details of the image. The denim jacket and the button, the hair (especially the erratic hairs in the back) as well as the eyes and nose and teeth. This is fine work indeed! My only critiscism is that an image based on a photograph is by its very nature a cheat if your intention is to create art. Composition, framing, background etc should be thought out in a serious work. Here, the photographer has done the selection for you. With your skill you should avoid this cheap imitation-art and go for some original compositions. My humble opinion.
