i gave yann martel a picture that i did in water color a few years ago. it looked somthing like this just a different angle and not the same colors or style. i asked him if he gets a lot of fan art and he said yes but never the flying fish, that inspired me to do this.

to kitten and mgervais .....yes that is true . thanks for the great comments ..i did not want to take credit for the story behind the illustration (thats cheating) but i also did not want to ruin kittens great story it sounded like she was having fun. i sent her a message but i dont think she got it. l

to kitten - i'm not the artist but i can answer your question- this is a scene from a novel by Yann Martel called 'Life of Pi' - Pi is a little boy trapped in a lifeboat with a tiger. Great book, lots of symbolism - this is a great illustration, avi.

I would like to know more about your inspiration for this art. It could be a very good childrens story about a boy and his protector...Lazar the Tiger and their journey to the deep south to find the key to...sorry i get carried away:O) This is a good pic and very inspirational to my mind of mischief.
