I started this piece over a year ago and only recently got around to re-opening it and finishing it.
The idea behind this was that the youth in the scene is undertaking a rite of passage, being sent out into the wastelands to prove he can survive a month in spite of the odds. In order to do so, he killed the giant lizard to mask his scent and provide shelter from larger predators. (Maybe I overthink these things, yeah? haha.)

Painter 8, Photoshop CS. No clue how many hours...but certainly well over 30.

Its always interesting to read the concept behind the art. Amazing how a little bipedal mammal like him could take on a colossal reptile like that (neurotoxic perhaps). Awesome work. The colors are very rich.

very well done. i like that you are actually able to see the tail stretch miles into the horizon. it gives the sence that this dragon is freaking huge. another dragon has been killed as well. thats a nice detail. thought it was a dead tree at first. keep it up. looks great!
