Sorry, something I meant to say but I accidentally submitted it:
I think the thing that makes science fiction so interesting is that everything we know, everything that our senses tell us, scream "That can't happen!", but only because of stereotypes and boxes. Where if we really thought about it, there's nothing, technically, that says it couldn't.
Also, the water is too blatantly different. Most of it is deathly calm, and yet there are some parts that are vivid and disturbed. Next time just try to be a little more consistent.

I agree. However, simply looking at the birds, it's easy to see that they are not flight-friendly, although they are flying in your picture. They are not aero-dynamic. That is why birds look the way they look. I guess it doesn't really matter, unless you get people like me who look at that kind of thing. I think that's why it gives it the touch of unrealism. Maybe it's just me.
