Basically just thinking, what if others in histor called to don the mantle of the Bat such as Bruce Wayne has in Gotham? that the Batman persona goes far bigger and beyond being a simple inspiration brought about by tragedy, but a calling to be all you can be to carry something out. Hope I did the idea justice.though employed in a setting other than gotham, the important thing is the essence of the character... and let's face it... Batman is very much Samurai, or even a follower of the Way of the Warrior. The top character, right under the bat means ta daaaaa... " Bat". and the bottom most character means... "Warrior". I went through hell getting those... but in the end it made the piece all the more satisfying. :D So wouldn't Batman be more like a Ninja you say? I've pondered that long and hard... and yes, batman, much like Ninja, is a creature of the night, a being of secrecy and mystery. Lots of tricks and gadgets. But the big difference is that Batman is no assasin. Ninja were often tools of assasination or subterfuge, sabotage, and spy missions. Which is why I came to the conclusion that Batman would very much be a samurai. In his rigourous training, and the essence of what it means to follow the Ways of the Warrior, I see him being very much Samurai. On another note, if you remember that two part episode of Batman: the Animated Series, Night of the Ninja, in which Batman/Bruce Wayne confronts Kyodai Ken... then I think you'll see a little bit more of what I mean. as for the look, I really didnt want to make this just a gimmick. so much of batman's costume has function. Because "criminals are a superstitious and cowardly lot.". So he's gotta be scary right? Hence the mask, to instill fear in those days. you know how seriously people took demons, tengu and the sort. then you got the Bat on his chest. His chest would be naturally more armored than say. his neck right? Much like the modern batman. the bat symbol on his chest serves as a "shoot/slice" here mark. I suppose the banner also serves this purpose. after the word of such a creature spreads through feudal Japan, I think most would run at the sight of the Bat on the banner. Another interesting spin is that bats have long been featured on kimono's and printing on garments. misunderstood, but often a sign of fortune, or even righteousness. Enough babble from me. I hope you enjoy it.
