Ordinary Heroes (Fantasy) digital artwork by Robert Chang

Artist's Comment
The inspiration for this piece was that I've always wanted to paint a classic group portrait of fantasy characters--sort of going back to childhood roots of fantasy novels and D&D. The tutorial for this piece will be published in the D'Artiste book that I'm co-writing with three other digital artists. You can find out more about the book here: http://www.ballisticpublishing.com/call_for_entries/dartiste/ The high res version is here: http://www.ethereality.info/ethereality_website/paintings_drawings/new/ordinary_heroes/ordinary_heroes.htm

OMG, your art is completely mind boggeling.
How long does it take you to complete a picture like this?
It takes me hours just for a simply anime image, I'm simply too lazy to put a lot of details in, maybe should I try to take more time myself when working on a picture, but even then do I doubt that I will ever reach your level.

Not so very ordinary heroes!!! They are beautiful! The lighting is great and the plants are so cool!!!

The lighting is exceptional, and I always liked the idea of the 'standard' hero: sort of like Diomedes in Homer's epics.

i am the guy sitting, the one with out the bow, you just have to make his hair longer. i would hit on the woman in the back but she would probably turn me into toad or some stuff. (just assuming she is a magic caster due to lack of weapons) love the art work, the over grown setting especially.

I would like to agree with everyone else; because obviously a lot of work has gone into it, but it is just too clean. Noxema clean. Like they're covered in talcum powder.
I think it needs a little more value change. Darker shadows and sharper whites where light is falling on the people (isn't it strange that we're more inclined to call these characters rather than people?), especially their skin to make the characters seem more alive.

wow this is cool... I love the shadowing over their faces and the whole feel of this. The only thing is the guy on the left - his pants don't seem to fit in with the rest of the piece and they're a bit distracting... But otherwise this is awesome, keep it up! I'd like to read the tutorial sometime...

Rock on.
This isn't exactly my favorite style but this is very well done.
