After looking at it, I can see what you mean... it almost looks like he's getting READY to deliver a Final Stab, not withdrawing (per the blood flying) from the final cut. The stance suggests stored energy to me.
The anatomical detail is... marvelous. It really does look like something that would be in the (evil) Sistine Chapel or summat. ; )

Fine, fine work. I've illustrated since 1985, and I don't say this lightly... but, this piece is remarkably similar to Frazetta. To critique it would not be helpful... to simply state that you should continue with this style is enough. If I had any suggestion, it would be to ad something simple and vague to the background... and make more:)
