For precisely the reasons that Matthew does not like this work, I like it. The future IS what we see when looking through a misty crystal ball.
The architecture in this landscape, being inspired by ancient Egypt and Buckminster Fuller, has that glassy futuristic feel to it, and the large, concave structure in the center looks like it could double as the landing site of a huge sphere.
